Can Ducan Concrete sealers be used to preserve the brick walls and chimney of our home?
Yes. Ducan Concrete sealers can be used to protect and preserve bricks and grout. The brick surfaces should be properly cleaned and free of any efflorescence before sealing. Fragile, loose, and missing mortar joints should be repaired prior to application of Ducan sealers. The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser made by Ducan is a great cleaner that effectively removes soot and ash prior to sealing.
Can I use Ducan Concrete sealers to seal my fish pond?
It is not recommended to seal birdbaths, pools, ponds, or fountains that contain running or standing water or where live creatures will come in contact with the water.
Can Ducan Concrete sealers be used on split-face landscape block?
Yes. The faces of all landscape blocks should be sealed before installing. This will prevent the effloresces from turning your blocks white.
Can I apply Ducan Concrete sealers to my asphalt driveways?
No. Although Ducan Concrete sealers will not harm asphalt driveways, they will not enhance them either. There are other products on the market designed specifically for use on asphalt driveways.
Can Ducan Concrete sealers be used on terracotta, barrel tiled roofs as a sealer to reduce mildew?
Yes. Ducan Concrete sealers can be used on barrel tile to seal the porosity of the substrate and to curtail mold and mildew formation.
Are Ducan Concrete sealers safe to use in cafeterias and commercial kitchens?
No. Although it will work for this application it is not food safe certified.
Can I apply Ducan Concrete sealers on my flagstone patio?
Yes. To maintain it's new look flagstone should be sealed the first year and every 2 years afterward to limit the effects of UV, Gas, Oil and Salt.
Can I use Ducan Concrete Sealer on my concrete paving stone driveway?
Yes. To maintain their new look longer paving stones should be sealed the first year and every 2 years afterward to limit the effects of UV, Gas, Oil and Salt.
Can I use Ducan Concrete sealers on concrete countertops to seal and protect them?
No. Although it will work for this application it is not food safe certified.
Will sealing my patio or driveway make them slippery?
Yes it can make them slightly slippier but not to the extent that they are dangerous. If you feel you need a bit more of a non-skid surface you can add Ducan Grip-Zone Slip Resistant Additive during the application.
How long do I have to wait before I can use my driveway after coating it?
Allow at least 24 hours before permitting traffic or parking a vehicle on the driveway.
Do I apply both coatings in the same direction?
No. The second coat should be at a right angle to the first coat for the most even distribution of the product.
Can I store any leftover sealer I have?
Yes it stores well for up to 1 year in the original container when kept at room temperature.  Make sure the lid is hammered on tightly.
How long does it take to dry between coatings?
Allow at least 4 hours before applying a second coat.
There are spots around where my car sits on the driveway that do not seem to have sealed as well as the rest of the driveway. What do you think the problem is?
If you have been waxing your car or applying tire dressing there is a chance the residue or overspray may still be on that part of the driveway. Thoroughly clean the areas using Ducan's The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser then rinse with clear water. Remember to wait 1 or more days before applying more sealer.
What do I need to do before sealing my patio or driveway?
Before sealing, your patio or driveway needs to be free of debris, stains and efflorescence. Any stain or efflorescence on the surface at the time of sealing will become trapped under the sealer. Thoroughly clean the areas using Ducan's The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser then rinse with clear water. Remember to wait 1 or more days before applying more sealer.
How often should I seal my patio or driveway?
Ideally, concrete should initially be coated with 2 coats of sealer. It is important to maintain the coating so we recommend a single coat every 2 years.
Can I use a power washer on my driveway?
Yes, although pressure washing is very hard on an unsealed concrete surface and can blow out the rock and sand prematurely wearing out the surface. Use The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser and hose it off if you have no previous sealer on your surface. Once it has been sealed you can pressure wash it without eroding the surface. Remember to wait 1 or more days after washing before applying sealer.
What should I do if there are oil stains on my driveway before I seal it?
Thoroughly clean the areas using Ducan's The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser then rinse with clear water. Remember to wait 1 or more days before applying sealer.
Why should I seal my driveway?
Even though concrete patios and driveways have a long life they are made from porous material and allow for moisture entry if not properly sealed. Sealing beautifies, enhances and maintains the original look and color of the concrete, limits moss and algae build up, the effects of spalling (freeze-thaw damage), UV, de-ice salts, oil, grease, chemicals, gas, dirt and staining. It limits the effects of pressure washing, abrasion and efflorescence (white salts that leach out to the surface). Sealer will not yellow.
How long do I have to wait before I seal my newly poured driveways or patio?
New concrete must be cured for a minimum of 28 days before applying Ducan sealers.

How much sealer will I need to coat my patio or driveway?

Ducan Concrete Sealer should be applied at a rate of 125 to 250 sq ft per 1 US gallon (3.78 L) can.

Ducan Concrete Glaze should be applied at a rate of 120 to 200 sq ft per 1 US gallon (3.78 L) can.

Note: Application rate will vary depending on the surface texture and porosity.
Can I seal my garden stones?
It is recommended that you seal your stones to protect from stains and water being absorbed. You may need to re-seal the stones each year depending on the frequency of use.
Will sealing my concrete stop the growth of moss and algae on my driveway and patio?
Yes. The spores of moss and algae need a moist environment to flourish. Because concrete is porous it becomes a natural breeding ground for this under the right conditions. By sealing the surface you are stopping water absorption and the continual presence of water, therefore you break the cycle of growth.
How do I clean up tools and equipment?
Clean tools and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately following use. Clean drips and overspray with solvent while still wet. If not cleaned immediately, the sealer will leave a residue on painted surfaces, metal, glass and wood.
I have cracks in my concrete. Do I have to fill them before sealing it? If so what should I fill them with?
Yes. You can seal them by filling them with sand and pouring sealer into the crack before sealing the surface of the driveway.
Can I seal vertical surfaces?
For vertical surfaces, apply from the bottom up and saturate the surface well. We do recommend the use of safety goggles when sealing vertical surfaces.
Can I use a sprayer to apply Concrete Sealer & Glaze?
Yes. Although we do not recommended doing so on windy or breezy days as overspray will travel to adjacent areas.
My concrete has gone milky or cloudy after sealing it?
This is normally caused by residual moisture in the concrete. Make sure you allow 2 days of drying time after rain or pressure washing the surface. It may also be caused by a chemical reaction with a prior coating. 
What type of warranty is available for Ducan Concrete Sealer?
Ducan offers a limited 1-year warranty on approved substrates. These substrates include, but are not limited to, Exposed Aggregate, paving stones concrete pavers, brick, concrete block and masonry. This product must be applied according to the manufacturers specifications. If the application does not meet these specifications, Ducan will, at its option and upon proof-of-purchase (within the 1 year) furnish an equivalent amount of new product. Ducan will not be responsible for (1) labor or the cost of labor for removal or application of any product; or (2) any incidental or consequential damages, whether based on breach of express or implied warranty, negligence, strict liability or any other legal theory. Please call our Technical Department for specific details regarding warranty.

Are the sealers maintenance free?

Nothing is totally maintenance free but sealing definitely cuts down on the need for cleaning. Compared to unsealed concrete it is far easier to keep clean, just sweep or use a pressure washer. The sealed surface is stain resistant, oil drippings can be removed with The Duke All Purpose Cleaner and Degreaser, a scrub brush and a hose. Sealing allows you to use a pressure washer if need be without worrying about the effects of it's use on the concrete surface. Mildew and moss have a difficult time growing on the sealed surface. We recommend a pressure wash at least once a year for a thorough cleaning. Ultra-violet light causes the surface shine to slowly fade. We recommend a re-coat every 2 years to keep it looking like new.
