The Dek-Master System

Ducan Dek-Master Application Instructions

1. Sweep deck thoroughly.

2. Caulk all joints and surface imperfections with Ducan Rubber Fill-It, two applications or until flush. Apply Fill-It against cantstrip. Nail cantstrip and flashing to deck only. Use Fill-It around railing posts. Drying time, 2-3 hours, depending on temperature.

3. Apply a coat of Dek-Master Adhesive to cantstrip and flashing. Allow to dry.

4. Lay out Dek-Master Vinyl Sheet to ensure fewest possible seams. Start from the furthest point from wall and allow enough vinyl to cover edge flashing completely when folded over edge of deck. Unroll vinyl sheet and adjust to ensure it is parallel to wall and/or deck edge. Staple or tack within 1" of upper edge to hold in place temporarily.

5. Fold vinyl sheet back half its width as shown and apply Dek-Master Adhesive to both deck and flashing first and "fuzzy" side of sheet second. IMPORTANT: Both surfaces must have a complete, even coat of adhesive. Let adhesive dry until tacky. Test "fuzzy" side of vinyl for tackiness.

6. Fold adhesive coated vinyl sheet down onto the deck surface working from the middle to the outer edge, then to each end. Follow with a roller or rolling pin to remove any trapped air.

7. Remove tacks or staples. Fold sheet back as shown. Apply Dek-Master Adhesive first to vinyl, then to deck surface. IMPORTANT: Both surfaces must have a complete, even coat of adhesive.

8. Repeat step 6.
9. Subsequent sheets must be overlapped 1". Repeat steps 4 through 8. To prevent adhesive from interfering with overlap, place 1" masking tape to where the overlap is going to be on the underside of the second sheet. This tape will be removed when applying Dek-Master Overlap Cement
IMPORTANT: Do not apply Dek-Master Adhesive to overlapping portion. Dek-Master Overlap Cement must be used here.

Finishing

1. Applying Overlap Cement
Temporarily apply 1" masking tape flush to overlapping edge to catch excess overlap cement. Extrude a 1/4" bead of overlap cement 1/4" to 1/2" in from overlapping edge on the vinyl sheet surface. Do only 5 feet. at a time. Using a seam roller apply pressure lengthwise then crosswise squeezing Overlap Cement to overlap edge, ensure bond is secure. WARNING: Do not use excessive pressure or over-rolling of overlap as this may distort the vinyl layer. Remove masking tpe. Draw excess smooth. For each 1" of overlap, another 1/4" bead of overlap cement is required.

2. Trimming, Cantstrip, Flashing
With a razor knife trim sheet to 1/4" above cantstrip, ensuring that the vinyl is adhering properly to cantstrip. Use caulking to fill in between wall and vinyl sheet. Trim sheet to 1/4"- 1/2" below edge of flashing.

3. Finishing outside corners
Trim sheet to 1/4"- 1/2" below edge of flashing. At corners cut sheet into deck corner in line with one edge. Apply Overlap Cement to side flap and flashing. (A) Fold side flap around corner first, followed by (B) top flap.

4. Finishing Flashing
Fold vinyl sheet over flashing and apply 1/8" vinyl U-Channel Deck Clip. Trim corners.

Helpful Hints
1. When testing for tackiness, test fuzzy side only.

2. Household wax paper can be used to prevent adhesive from accidentally being applied onto outside of vinyl surface or against siding.

3. Avoid getting adhesive on Dek-Master vinyl deck surface. Clean up spills immediately with a clean dry cloth.

4. When vinyl sheet is folded back half its own width, place cans every 5 feet on leading edge. This will prevent curling while adhesive is becoming tacky.
