The Roll-Dek System

Ducan Roll-Dek Application Instructions

1. Thoroughly sweep the entire deck area free from sawdust, sand, mud and other foreign matter that might interfere with a good adhesion.

2. Once flashing and cantstrip has been nailed to the deck, fill all T&G plywood joints, nail/screw indentations, surface imperfections, flashing and cantstrip interface with the DUCAN RUBBER FILL-IT (2 applications will be required or until flush)

Tip: Rubber Fill-it is designed to shrink. No sanding required.

Tip: Do not use silicone or a latex based caulking as these are incompatible

3. Polyester Tape is strongly recommended for the plywood, flashing and cantstrip interface. Also for the plywood joints, apply rubber fill it to joints, flashing, etc. Then during 2nd application, while the fill is still wet, imbed polyester tape into it. Wait till dry & apply 2nd coat over tape (like drywall). Roll all taped joints & flashing areas with basecoat prior to full coats of basecoat.

COVERAGE OF THE ROLL-DEK TEXTURED BASE COAT:

New Sanded Plywood

Apply Ducan Roll-Dek at the rate of 2.5 U.S. Gallons per 128 sq. ft. one coat (2 applications are required for new surfaces) and/or 1 U.S. gallon per 50 sq. ft. one coat. NOTE: All coverages approximate. Actual coverage will depend on surface and porosity of material to be covered. Not recommended over painted, stained or silicone surfaces.

Important: All the material required must be applied.

4. Thoroughly stir the ROLL-DEK until no sediment remains in the bottom of the container.

5. With a brush, paint a full coat of ROLL-DEK around the railing posts and all metal flashing and polyester cantstrip, and anywhere tape is applied.

6. Prepare the roller and attach the extension.

7. Fully dip the roller in the ROLL-DEK 2.5 gallon container while making a stirring motion (do this after each pass).

8. Apply the wet roller without heavy pressure to the deck and roll out the material in one direction only, 18Ó-24Ó per roller full only. (Do not go back and forth.)

9. Make sure a puddle of ROLL-DEK stays ahead of the roller, this will ensure that the rubber non-skid particles stay evenly distributed. Remember you have to apply a heavy coat.

10. Make 3 or 4 passes next to each other, refilling the roller on every pass. The area covered should be approx. 2x3 ft. Then roll crosswise to eliminate roller marks. The roller weight alone is sufficient.

11. Important: At the mid-way point in your ROLL-DEK container, you will want to refill it using your other ROLL-DEK container. You should have used half the required ROLL-DEK material in your first coat. Let first application dry. Drying time will vary depending on the surface and temperature. Allow at least 3 to 6 hours between coats.

12. Start the second application of ROLL-DEK in a different corner and work at right angles to the first application. Repeat steps 4 though 11.

IMPORTANT: All the material required must be applied. If you find areas with less non-skid coverage, you may add to these areas at any edge prior to topcoat.

13. You must apply Ducan TOP-COTE as a color/sealer coat.

14. Thoroughly stir the Ducan TOP-COTE until no sediment remains in the bottom of the container. Intermix the contents of the containers to ensure color uniformity, if different batch numbers are being used.

15. With a brush, paint a full coat of Ducan TOP-COTE around railing posts and all edges of the deck.

16. Prepare the roller and attach the extension.

17. Using a short nap roller suitable for enamels, roll out the TOP-COTE at the rate of 80 sq. ft. per 1 U.S. gallon.

18. Drying time may vary from 2 to 4 hours depending on the surface and temperature. Allow 48 hours to cure, before permitting traffic on surface and placement of patio furniture. Allow only light traffic for the first 14 days.
